We all know that if we don’t spruce up our homes with a fresh coat of paint every so often, they can quickly start to look tired and generally downbeat. And if we don’t give them a face lift from time to time, they begin to look downright dated.
And that’s why we decorate or revamp on a regular basis, or at least pay (or bribe!) someone else to do it.
Personally I think there are many things that could do with a spot of redecoration! Customer databases for example, now there’s one thing that needs a good cleansing every so often because the fact is, things change: companies move.
Something else I truly believe warrants a regular refurbishment is your company website. When was the last time you stood back and had a good look at it?
Trends Change Fast in the World of the Web
If it’s a while since you launched your site, say more than a year, chances are some parts of it are now out of date. And if it’s been out there for a few years, it’s likely it’s starting to look fairly outmoded. Trends change quickly in the world of the web and what may have looked forward-thinking a few years ago could well be considered old hat today.
At the very least, you should check to make sure your content is still telling the story as it should be. Is your ‘About’ page still giving a true picture of your company, or is it missing a trick because you’ve now expanded and have even more expertise and experience? Are your ‘Services’ or ‘Products’ up to date or have you added new ones that no one knows about unless they ask?
Visitors Scarper when they see Outdated News!
More importantly, if you have a ‘News’ section or a blog, when was the last time you posted anything? Did you know that visitors will be put off doing business with you if they see an out of date website?
And then of course there’s the design. You may have some great images now that you could be sharing with your visitors, and there may be new, more effective ways of showcasing your products and services which have been developed since your site was launched.
It’s well worth taking some time to consider whether your website could do with a refurb, or at least a spring clean. A site that’s bang on trend and portraying a true picture of your company today, rather than what it was a few years back, is sure to give you a far better return. As they say on all those DIY and property programmes, a fresh coat of paint and simple face lift can add serious value to a home, so why not to a website?!
A fresh coat of paint can work wonders!
